About me and the development of digital art
I have been working as a freelance illustrator for over 30 years and have experienced the fascinating development of digital art first hand.
My first commissions included video covers and advertising posters, which were still painstakingly made by hand at the time. But by the early 1990s it was already clear what potential digital technology held. I invested in my first Apple workstation and "Photoshop 01". I really wanted to use this new achievement.
Digitalization opened up completely new possibilities. Combining structures, merging transitions from different materials with photos and working out the details of Photo Surrealism using a drawing table offered completely new perspectives.
In 1995 I founded the website hpkolb-gallery. de to present and sell my work.
It quickly became apparent that Metamorphoses were my passion. To create figures that look photorealistic but do not exist in real life, similar to mythology, in order to arouse a certain curiosity in the viewer. There is a message behind every picture, and the multitude of details ensures that new elements and subtleties can be discovered with every look, which makes the pictures interesting and appealing in the long term.
My way of working is characterized by a clear focus on self-production and individuality.
The photo surrealism that I create in my works is very complex, but the result speaks for itself. My works offer a
remarkable depth of focus and clarity as well as a profound message, which make them particularly impressive and attractive.
This conscious selection and use of my own resources not only guarantees authenticity, but also enables me to create individual
